How the pattern relates to seam placement: some quartz patterns require careful seam planning to prevent abrupt visual breaks. You can't assess this from a chip.

Sink and cooktop cutouts in quartz require precision. The opening needs to align with the fixture, be finished cleanly around the edge, and be cut without chipping the surface. Quartz is harder than it looks to cut cleanly; tooling and speed both matter.
